Iveco’s gas-powered Daily light commercial vehicle has been named Ireland’s ‘Green Commercial of the Year 2009’ at the Fleet Transport Awards, held at the Marriott Johnstown House Hotel in Enfield, Co Meath, on 5 October.

The Daily beat off tough competition to win this prestigious award from the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter NGT and the Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel, earning particular praise for reducing its CO2 emissions by 62 per cent in comparison with an equivalent diesel model.

Commenting on the Daily’s success in this new award category, Jarlath Sweeney, Editor of Fleet Transport said: “The Daily’s environmental credentials really stack up.  The Liquid Biomethane (LBM) it runs on is one of the most sustainable alternative fuels available, making the gas-powered Daily a very green proposition for fleets.”

All gas-powered Daily vans are recommended for use with LBM produced by Gasrec, a preferred supplier to Iveco.  The gas used to make the LBM comes directly from landfill sites which means it is not depleting fossil resources.  The process allows Gasrec to recover the latent energy stored in material discarded by society to provide power which is particularly suited to vehicles operating on a regular back-to-base cycle in the urban environment, such as local authorities and distribution companies.

LBM is a commercially competitive and environmentally sound fuel that can be directly substituted for natural gas and has the lowest carbon intensity of all commercially available alternative fuels.  One tonne of LBM is equivalent to 1,200 litres of diesel, which is sufficient to fuel a 44 tonne heavy goods vehicle for an entire week.

The complete range of gas-powered Daily’s extends to 28 different models, plated between 3.5 and 6.5 tonnes, including three panel vans, five chassis cabs and five chassis crew-cabs, available in a variety of different wheelbase lengths.  The chassis cabs can be fitted with various bodies including curtainsides, tippers, dropside, boxes or Lutons, providing the widest range of transport solutions available in the light vehicle sector.

All models are powered by the same 3 litre engine which is capable of producing up to 136 hp between 2,730 and 3,500 rev/min, and up to 350 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 2,730 rev/min.  It is built as a dedicated natural gas vehicle and is subjected to all of the same build-quality standards as a line-built diesel type.

Since 1999, more than 4,000 gas powered Daily vans and chassis cabs have been sold across Western Europe, highlighting Iveco’s significant investment in developing alternatives to traditional diesel powered commercial vehicles.

(Watford, 25 August 2009): Retail customers purchasing a new 3.5 tonne Daily panel van from Iveco dealer or manufacturer stock, in the UK, can now benefit from a free two year Iveco Elements ‘Motion’ repair and maintenance contract.

These special Iveco offers are included on new Daily vans registered before 31 December 2009 and covering up to 30,000 miles a year.

This comprehensive maintenance contract is worth more than £1,400. Included in the promotion, Iveco offers scheduled servicing, repair and replacement of selected key components due to wear and tear and non-scheduled repairs.

Andrea Bucci, Marketing Director at Iveco UK, says: “Many smaller fleets have traditionally purchased their vans outright or on finance and then arranged servicing at a local level as and when required. This unique deal allows them to benefit from free servicing and maintenance for the first two years of the vehicle’s life, therefore helping to manage cash flow and minimise expenditure. It also provides the added reassurance that their vehicle is being maintained to the highest of standards by a franchised Iveco dealer.”

For added flexibility, Iveco can also supply special rates on request for higher annual mileages and contract terms spanning 36, 48 and 60 month periods.

Iveco’s 3.5 tonne Daily panel van range offers an extensive array of models giving operators the choice between eight different load space volumes from 7.3 to 17.2m³, together with engine power outputs ranging from 116 to 176 hp and including both diesel and natural gas variants. Models are also available with an agile automated gearbox for predominantly urban applications.
